ABOUT PET MATCHMAKER

The below information is from the Pet Matchmaker website:

Pet Matchmaker is a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue organization that rescues homeless and unwanted dogs from high kill shelters and abusive and neglectful situations all over the United States.

SOUTHERN RESCUE OPERATION
Our original mission was and still is to rescue dogs and cats from the southern states (i.e . Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc.), and transport them up to New England. Our rescue originally started with three friends with the same desire–to save as many dogs as possible from these awful situations they had been placed in by no fault of their own. Situations such as:

  • High Risk (72 hour hold) kill shelters
  • Abandonment
  • Starvation / lack of care
  • Abuse / neglect

We arrange and pay for the dogs vetting, any testing necessary, vaccinations and spay/neuter. We place the dogs and cats in a volunteer foster home, either down south or in New England, that will lovingly care for the dog and evaluate the best kind of home for the dog. We have banded together to bring these dogs from the south to New England where we can achieve a greater rate of adoption for these wonderful pets.

WEST COAST/CALIFORNIA OPERATION
In our most recent venture, we have added a new branch of our rescue in California, where we are having a very similar situation as the southern states with lack of care of animals in the county of Kern (Bakersfield, CA). Unlike most of California, Kern County is way behind in the times, and spaying/neutering is not common practice in the area, thus leading to an overwhelming euthanasia rate in Bakersfield and Kern County in general. We have rescues from all over the state as well as other states, coming into Kern county and helping us by taking dogs from the local shelters and bringing them to where there is more desire for these otherwise doomed animals.

Currently, over 2500 dogs and cats are euthanized every month in Kern County shelter alone! Pet Matchmaker Rescue will be aiding Kern County Animal Control as well as other animal rescue groups throughout the state, and lone animals left for stray in the community by housing, vetting and adopting out as many animals as possible in a humane, safe and sanitary manner. We would welcome the opportunity to work with you to help you find a match and a friend for life.

"A Pet's Ten Commandments"
- sent to us by Pet Matchmaker

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
